Start 2015 on the right paw with the APDT’s National Train Your Dog Month, which celebrates dogs and stresses the importance of canine training among pet professionals as well as modern families with four-legged members.

WHO: This bark-worthy holiday is the product of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT), an  international organization that leads the canine training and behavior industry. Year-round the APDT assists their members by providing the educational tools needed to be quality resources within their communities. But throughout January, the organization makes a special effort to share their message and mission with general pet owners too.

WHY: The value of dog training is far reaching, including…
– Establishing a more positive relationship with your pet
– Better understanding your pet’s behavior (and misbehaviors)
– Decreasing potential “miscommunications” and day-to-day stress
– Increasing the safety of your family members and guests, as well as for your own pet

HOW TO CELEBRATE:  Resources – The APDT is pleased to provide a number of free resources for pet lovers, like tips on kids and pets  interacting; considerations for multi-pet homes; understanding training methods and busting dominance myths; plus how to find the right trainer for you and your pet’s needs. These insightful references and others were created with the help of several renowned pet training and behavior experts. Professional trainers and pet parents alike are encouraged to download these resources and  share them. Visit APDT.com/pet-owners to access them and learn more.

“Education is the APDT’s core mission,” comments president Mychelle Blake. “National Train Your Dog Month is  our version of a public service announcement and enables more canine professionals, whether they’re APDT  members or not, to better service their clientele and help more pets and people live better, happier lives  together.”

The APDT encourages anyone interested in learning more about dogs to visit www.APDT.com and www.TrainYourDogMonth.com.
